
For years, media companies have used different methods and concepts in order to push their texts further and achieve the most ‘success’ possible. Marvel’s The Avengers has been one of the highest grossing franchises in the history of film. With over 22 films all linking together, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become a giant within the Action and Adventure genre. Throughout this essay, I will be exploring ways in which Marvel are able to use different Paratexts and Representations to their advantage in order to drive their media texts and capitalise to the biggest extent possible. Marvel has always encouraged paratext and has often incorporated paratexts within their original texts. But at what point do paratexts start being regarded as part of the original text? What is the paratext in relationship to the original text? and how do media producers use representation in order to appeal to a more diverse audience? What boundaries does paratext conform to?
